I think this year is the year to build bridges and to bring the community together for the future of Cupertino.
As a gesture of inclusiveness, I suggest that the city allow reserved
seatings for those who would rather not pay $30 for a sit-down lunch,
but they would like to hear the mayor's State of the City Address in
person. These are people who would like to make the effort to attend the
event in person to show their commitment to our good city. I hope that
the city show them the same respect as those who chooses to have a
sit-down $30 lunch.
Please allow the citizens to reserve
a free seat in advance. And please arrange the seats in the front
center of the room, instead of at the back. For example, if 30 people
signed up for free seatings, you may arrange two rows of 15 seats each
or 5 rows of 6 seats each in the very front of the room.
This way people with free seatings won't feel like they are treated like second-class citizens, standing in the back of the room while the rest of the crowd has a sit-down lunch. Also, this way the people with free seating can pay their full attention on the stage, instead of staring on other people's lunches. And people having lunch won't have a crowd of people staring down at them while they have lunch.
By
arranging free seatings in the front center of the room, it shows
Cupertino citizens that the State of the City Address is addressed to
the citizens, whether they can afford a $30 lunch or not.
